New art...
So I have returned to beadwork after a LOOOONG hiatus. It became way too tedious after having kids and then having to deal with climbing needy little ones. It takes a lot of patience. So I accepted a show for June of this year at Galleria Tempest in Sacramento, CA. I am finally back in the swing of it. My kids are amazed that I can do this, which makes me feel proud. I am amazed that it came back so easily. Here is a quick cell phone snapshot of the first piece finished. I will need to cut around the edges and sew it onto a matboard and frame it. That will come later.

TTV Photos now on Etsy
I am adding some of my Through the Viewfinder photos on ETSY a little at a time. The first five added were taken using an old argoflex camera with a vinyl and electric tape contraption built around it to block the light. I affectionately call that contraption the boot, because it looks like a boot.

These photos were taken for a show that coincided with the play "Burnt Fields" at the Lambda Theater in midtown Sacramento. I took them over two days in the Sacramento Old City Cemetery on Riverside Blvd. The Cemetery is a historic site and offers tours on a regular basis. It is a beautiful place to walk and spend time.

Beadwork Exhibition 2009
I am finally getting back into the beadwork. I think I may finally have the patience for it once again. Anyhow, I better have it or my show won't go so well. That's right! I have a show coming up in June of 2009. It will the Second Saturday of June at Blooming Art in Midtown Sacramento. I am really excited about it. If you have not seen my beadwork you can go to my site www.kinymccarrick.com and select the beadwork page. I have one piece started for the show, but it is really large. I may start some smaller pieces first to get those out of the way before returning to the large piece. Here is the start of that one though.....

Just plain and Simple.... I LOVE David Bowie. So a couple of years ago I created this mixed media piece of his likeness using a photo transfer method, acrylics, collage, found objects and beeswax. I am making necklaces out of some of my old artwork and photos using shrink plastic and hemp cord.
Here is the Bowie one!
sigh......

Places to show your art online FREE....
On New Year's Eve I had a conversation with an artist that I admire greatly, www.johnstuartberger.com
We chatted about art in general and I somewhat expected him to be a little bit "oh yeah, you're an Artist, uh huh, " but was pleasantly surprised that he was not in the slightest bit full of himself and had some really inspiring things to say. The inspiration came from the fact that we talked self deprecation. Now how is that inspiring you ask? Well it goes to show that an artist with so much talent can absolutely question themselves and berate their work just like the rest of us. He also talked about not listening to others. And getting back in the flow, and that if you feel out of it, it will come back to you. And then the next day, like promised, he shared some links of free places to add your art and get it out there.
So I am going to share these links as well... just in case someone out there needs some inspiration too.
